Cal Ripken: From a Young Fan to a Hall of Famer
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010The Baltimore Orioles have a long history in baseball. It is a member of Major League Baseball, AL East. It was first known as the Milwaukee Brewers, which does not correspond to the Milwaukee Brewers we know today. In 1901, he changed his name to Brown of San Luis, when he moved there. It was named after moved to Baltimore Orioles in 1954.
One of the most memorable players who played for the birds is Calvin Edwin Ripken, Jr. was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland August 24, 1960. Baseball is in his blood. His father was a baseball coach who happens to manage the Orioles in the ’80s.
He has held many great memories for baseball fans. One is that surpassed Lou Gehrig’s record, where he acquired the name of Iron Man after setting the consecutive games in Major League Baseball 2632.
He had an incredible career with the Orioles. This is the only team who played his entire career, which lasted from 1981 to 2001.
He did not come as a surprise when the young Cal developed a love for baseball. Who does not love the game, right? very young, I was sure what he wants to be when he grows up. The time spent watching his father coach and the time has practiced joke with the players prepared for the greatness of baseball.
Before joining the Orioles, was a varsity player in high school that won the crown of champion in the Class-A championship in 1977. He also won a title bar Hanford County, where he played in the Mickey Mantle World Series in 1977.
Its growth as a baseball player has been gradual. Not everyone wow when he entered the stadium. Not bad, although there was much room for improvement. As he advanced to different Orioles team has also improved as an athlete. It was not long before he made his first All-Star appearance. Although it struggled at the plate, his improvement was time to win the Rookie of the Year level Award.
There were moments in the bittersweet story of the Baltimore Orioles. The team beat the Philadelphia Phillies win the World Series. Ripken also the most important player for the American League series. But that is not compatible. They had their worst growing up and the last at some point. This happened between reliable performance.
He continued to play their best, but many of his followers were speculative batting average. This does not prevent him from winning the second most valuable player award in the AL though. He also won a Gold Glove as the best defensive player. He also participated the most important player for the All-Star Game.
His induction to the Hall of Fame Baseball took place in January 2007, six years after his retirement. The young man who fell in love with the sport while watching his father coach the team, has proven to be one of the greatest baseball players of our time.
