Hall County Sports Television Features FCA Summer Passing Camp; Bench-Pressers; Yearly Awards Area Football teams are back at work, getting ready for the start of next season in August. Recently, HCS-TV host R. Garry Glenn dropped by the FCA’s Annual Passing Camp and Lineman Challenge and spoke with head coaches Paul Friel of Johnson, Bruce Miller of Gainesville, Bob Christmas of North Hall, Bryan Gray of East Hall and Stan Luttrell of Chestatee as well as FCA Area Director Jason Lester. Also this week Hall County Sports Television features coverage of the recent World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters National Championships in Nashville, Tennessee where Georgia IronDawg Eric Head set the all-time world record bench press in his 132 pound class with a press of 501. Glenn interviews IronDawg “T” Moon of Gainesville about Head and Moon’s own struggles with shoulder tendonitis and diabetes as Moon himself set the WABDL record for his age and weight class with a lift of 661. Also this week, the show names its all-sports picks for athletes, teams and coaches for this past year, Summer 2010-Spring 2011. Hall County Sports Television Features Golf, Track, Soccer; Weightlifting The North Hall golf boys shot their best round of the season; but still had to go to a playoff to finish second in the AAA State Tournament held at Chattahoochee this past Monday. This week on HCS-TV, Trojan Coach Robert Mills and NHHS senior Charlie Matthews talk about the finish that got the Trojans their silver medals and runner-up trophy. The North Hall track boys head into this week’s State Track Meet-the Georgia Olympics in Jefferson- as 8-AAA Region Champs. On the show this week Trojan track coach Joe Bradshaw talks with Hall County Sports TV host R. Garry Glenn about his North Hall boys. The Flowery Branch boys finished 3rd in 8-AAAA, and also have some qualifiers who can earn a spot on the victory stand in Jefferson. Coach Jimmy Sorrells of the Branch is on the show as well. The Johnson soccer boys had a mercy-rule game in their first round of the state soccer tournament. Knights’ coach Brian Shirley discusses that victory and this year’s team. Chestatee won girls’ and boys’ State Championships in Olympic Weightlifting this past Saturday at Flowery Branch; with the Flowery Branch teams second. Tournament director, coach CJ Stockel of the Branch, is on with Glenn to talk about that meet and how some of the athletes will now go on to international competition. Hall County Sports Television Features Track, Baseball, Fights Preview Hall County mined some gold and silver at Georgia Olympics XL, the State All-classification Boy’s Track and Field Meet this past week in Jefferson. This week, state champions AAA distance king Cody Barger of North Hall; pole vault winner Austin Eckenroth of Flowery Branch; hurdle champ Kerry Mata of East Hall; and discus runner up Tarvin Dukes of Riverside talk with host R. Garry Glenn about their efforts in Jefferson. Eckenroth’s coach, Jimmy Sorrels of the Branch, also speaks with Glenn about Austin’s efforts and looks ahead to the girls’ State Meet this weekend in Albany. Last year Erika Rucker of the Lady Falcons won the AAA 400. This year, she moves up to 4-A, and has qualified in the 400 and 800 meter races. She is on the show to talk about trying to win two state titles. The West Hall Lady Spartans won the region 8-AAA track championship and take seven girls to State. West Hall coach Cindy Herford is on the show to discuss her team. Also this week, North Hall baseball coach Trent Mongero talks about his Trojans who have set numerous school records in making the round of 16 in the state playoffs; and promoter Jay Jones talks about the night of fights this Friday at the Georgia Mountains Center. Hall County Sports Television Features Rowing; Powerlifting; Dragonboating This week’s Hall County Sports Television Show features record breakers. Fit 2 Tri Manager Kelly Parham of Gainesville recently set a world record on the Concept 2 indoor rowing machine with a 77-hour marathon session. No stranger to endurance sports, Parham appears this week to talk about his achievement with host R. Garry Glenn. Dragonboating may be an Olympic sport not too many years from now and the Olympic venue at Clark’s Bridge has a thriving program. Veteran racer Jim O’Dell is on the show this week as well to discuss the possibility of Dragonboating being at the 2016 Rio Olympics and how local hopefuls can try it out. The Georgia IronDawgs Powerlifting team swept the team national championships in bench press and full-power this past weekend in East Peoria, Illinois. The ‘Dawgs also came away with three Best Lifter Awards, the Champion of Champions Cup and a number of national and world records. Meet highlights are featured this week, along with an interview with IronDawg Kevin Eubanks, who has made a remarkable recovery from a near fatal staph infection after major knee surgery to win a national title this past Sunday. Hall County Sports Television Features Golf, Soccer, Baseball The Gainesville boys captured the region 8-AAA golf championship at the Chattahoochee course last week, with North Hall the runner-up; and this week Red Elephant coach Bryson Worley and Trojan coach Robert Mills talk about the region tournament and look ahead to the State Championship tourney which will also be held at Chattahoochee next Monday. Gainesville and North Hall went head-to-head on the baseball diamond this past Sunday with the Elephants coming out on top of that one 2-1 in a great pitcher’s duel; and sweeping the Trojans in the season series. GHS coach Jeremy Kemp and David Gonzalez, who pitched most of the game and scored the winning run, talk with host R. Garry Glenn about the game and what it means. The West Hall soccer girls are back in the post-season after a drought of a few years. Hall County mined more precious metal at the girls’ State Track Meet in Albany this past week. Coach Jimmy Sorrels of Flowery Branch talks about Erika Rucker of the Lady Falcons who won double gold in the AAAA 400 and 800 meter races, leading the Branch girls to a 6th place finish in Albany. The West Hall Lady Spartans wound up 7th in the AAA category. Lady Spartan coach Cindy Herford is on the show this week, along with freshman Maia Booker, who finished 2nd and 3rd in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The baseball season ended for North Hall and Gainesville in the round of 16 last week. Trojan coach Trent Mongero and North Hall senior players Mason Savage and Jared Oliver are on the show to discuss the Trojans’ season. Gainesville coach Jeremy Kemp also appears to talk about his Red Elephants.
